Catholic Nursing Mothers League

Encouragement and Support for Breastfeeding within the Catholic Community

This website is lovingly dedicated to Sheila Kippley, who together with her husband, John, has made “ecological breastfeeding" and “natural mothering”  not only possible but practical and fun for so many Catholic families.

Applications for volunteers will be available January 31, 2007. More information about volunteer opportunities will be available soon. Stay tuned! CNML was mentioned in the January 2007 issue of the Homiletic and Pastoral Review - thanks to Sheila Kippley for mentioning us! Have a look! A book study of Sheila Kippley's Breastfeeding and Catholic Motherhood will be offered starting in February in Richmond, Virginia. Please email Pam at pilchjohn6@aol.com for more information.

Welcome!

The Catholic Nursing Mothers League was founded in April 2006 to provide encouragement and support to breastfeeding mothers and to educate families, parishes and society about the Roman Catholic Church's support for maternal nursing.

Our Mission

To increase the initiation and duration of breastfeeding among Catholic mothers.

To accomplish this mission, we will provide breastfeeding education and spiritual support to Catholic mothers, families and parishes.

Our Goals

1) To educate mothers, families and parish communities about the Catholic Church’s past and present support for breastfeeding.

2) To encourage all mothers to breastfeed for at least one year.

3) To promote ecological breastfeeding to facilitate nursing and to space babies naturally.

4) To support breastfeeding mothers who use natural family planning (NFP) and encourage NFP use in every stage of life.

5) To encourage women in their vocation as mothers and promote mother-child togetherness, especially in the first three years of life.
